2017 Board Member Openings
We are currently looking for recommendations/applications for 2017 Basileia Board Members!
About the Board at Basileia:
In the early church, as the opportunity for ministry grew for the church elders, they were also taking on large workloads to serve the needy and handle the administrative functions of the church. As a solution, the elders appointed a team to assist them in these responsibilities:
“Now in these days when the disciples were increasing in number, a complaint by the Hellenists arose against the Hebrews because their widows were being neglected in the daily distribution. 2 And the twelve summoned the full number of the disciples and said, “It is not right that we should give up preaching the word of God to serve tables. 3 Therefore, brothers, pick out from among you seven men* of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will appoint to this duty. 4 But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” 5 … 6 These they set before the apostles, and they prayed and laid their hands on them.” (Acts 6: 1- 4 & 6 ESV)
*Although using a group of only men made sense in the cultural context of the early church, we welcome both men and women into this role.
People of good repute: well regarded members of the community, who demonstrate investment in the community through active participation.
People full of the Spirit: spiritually mature, with evidence the Holy Spirit is at work in their life, which is reflected through faithfulness to the person and work of Jesus.
People of wisdom: wisdom demonstrated through sound decision making and knowledge of core Christian teaching.
The Board’s primary responsibilities are:
-To make the financial decisions for the church
-To administer church resources (at Basileia, the 30%) by assessing needs on a case-by-case basis
-To make decisions about hiring and salaries
-To act as a Board of Directors.
